Police sought the public’s assistance Wednesday in identifying a suspected hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of an 88-year-old man in the South Park area of Los Angeles.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on April 1 when a black sedan traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard struck the man, who was walking in a marked crosswalk on the north side of East 49th Street, without stopping to render aid, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he later died.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.
The city offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a fatal hit-and-run case.
