A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday as she walked in a Long Beach crosswalk against a red light, authorities said.

The crash was reported at about 4:50 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said the woman was walking southbound in the east crosswalk of PCH against a red light when she was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu sedan being driven west on PCH by a 19-year-old Long Beach resident, who stopped as required and cooperated with the investigation.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“At this time, impaired driving, distracted driving and excessive speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision,” police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the fatal crash was urged to contact the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355 to speak with Detective David Dougherty.
