Police in Long Beach Thursday announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a woman last week.
Officers were sent about 10:35 p.m. on May 28 to investigate a report of a stabbing in the 4500 block of California Avenue and found the victim had sustained stab wounds to her upper and lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The woman, whose name was withheld, said she had been attacked by an unknown man while walking in the area and was in stable condition when taken to a hospital, police said.
“Through their investigation … detectives identified the suspect as Joseph Hernandez, a 27-year-old male resident of Long Beach,” according to an LBPD statement. “Suspect Hernandez was already in custody for an unrelated incident. He was re-booked for attempted murder, and bail is set at $1,000,000.”
The case is now in the hands of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will decide if formal charges will be filed.
Anyone with information regarding the stabbing was urged to contact LBPD Violent Crimes Detective Derek Bailey at 562-570-7250.
