A stretch of the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway was closed Friday as California Highway Patrol officers investigated a report of a shooting.
A SigAlert was issued at 10:44 a.m. Friday for the closure of all southbound lanes as officers investigated unconfirmed reports of a shooting just south of Atlantic Boulevard, a CHP officer said.
All lanes were reopened and the SigAlert was canceled at 11:30 a.m., the officer said.
Officers continued to investigate, but were unable to immediately confirm the veracity of the shooting report.
The investigation came hours after Los Angeles police fatally shot a suspected gunman on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Westchester. The investigation that ensued has shut down the northbound 405 for several hours.
