A man was stabbed in the upper body Sunday in Long Beach, authorities said.

Officers dispatched at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday to a report of a stabbing in the 6700 block of Lewis Avenue, north of the Artesia (91) Freeway and west of Orange Avenue, located the victim, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was treated for what was described as a non-life-threatening injury.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the victim and adult male suspect were engaged in a verbal dispute that escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim,” according to a police statement. “The suspect fled the scene prior to officer arrival.”

The investigation was ongoing.
