A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Arleta, authorities said Monday.
The crash was reported at 10:29 p.m. Sunday on the southbound Golden State Freeway just north of Osborne Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Kravig said.
Additional details about the crash were not immediately available, she said.
A news videographer who went to the scene reported that the pedestrian may have been running on the freeway when they were struck on the southbound side and were then thrown onto the northbound side.
The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down all southbound lanes in the area at 10:43 p.m. and shut down the HOV lane and shut down all but lane 6 of the northbound side at 11:11 p.m. The lanes were reopened at about 3 a.m.
