A 71-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle and killed as she walked in a Long Beach crosswalk against a red light was identified Tuesday.
The crash was reported at about 4:50 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said the woman was walking southbound in the east crosswalk of Pacific Coast Highway against a red light when she was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu sedan being driven west on Pacific Coast Highway by a 19-year-old Long Beach resident, who stopped as required and cooperated with the investigation.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
She was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Kathleen Banks.
“At this time, impaired driving, distracted driving and excessive speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision,” police said.
