A 47-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman suspected in the fatal shooting of a 47-year-old man in an unincorporated area bordering Corona have been taken into custody, authorities announced Monday.

Hector Saldana and Rachel Arredondo of Corona were both arrested within the city on Sunday, with assistance from Emergency Services Team, Major Crimes Unit and Gang Task Force personnel, and booked into the Riverside County Jail on suspicion of murdering Carlos Villa, also of Corona, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies assigned to the Lake Matthews Sheriff’s Station responded at approximately 1 a.m. on May 19 to the 3000 block of Grant Street in Home Gardens to reports regarding an unresponsive man in the area, sheriff’s officials said.

The responding deputies located Carlos Villa, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was administered life-saving measures, but despite those efforts, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The motive behind the fatal shooting has not been disclosed, with sheriff’s officials saying that Central Homicide Unit detectives assumed the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting was urged to call Central Homicide Unit Investigator Jimenez at 951-955-2777 or Lake Matthews Investigator Juarez at 951-272-5600.
