A construction crew working on an apartment building in the Exposition Park area broke a natural gas line Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
The 2-inch line was damaged around 9 a.m. Tuesday at the site of a six-story apartment building under construction in the 3900 block of South Figueroa Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and Southern California Gas Co.
SoCalGas crews responded to the scene and secured the leak at about 11 a.m., according to the company. Crews remained on the scene through the afternoon to complete the repair work, with SoCalGas advising that people in the area many notice a gas odor during the work.
Gas Co. officials said 173 construction workers were evacuated from the area when the leak occurred, but those evacuations were later lifted.
