An armed suspect who led law enforcement on a pursuit Thursday from Pomona to Lake Hughes Road, Elizabeth Lake and Lancaster has been taken into custody.

The chase began in Pomona and transitioned to the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Newhall area.

At one point during the chase, the suspect made a U-turn and began traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway in the Newhall area before transitioning onto surface streets in the Castaic area, then onto Lake Hughes Road.

During the pursuit, the driver at one point also began driving recklessly, swerving on Lake Hughes Road and occasionally crossing the double yellow lines.

Reports from the scene indicated that the suspect may have disposed of a weapon while evading officers.

The driver then took to the surface streets near Elizabeth Lake Road and Lookabout Road in the Elizabeth Lake area, continuing to elude law enforcement into Lancaster. Officers executed a PIT maneuver near 20th Street West and West Avenue K, where the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and he was taken into custody.

KCAL reported that at least two people were shot on Garey Avenue in Pomona at approximately 5:15 p.m., but it remains unclear if the shooting incident is related to the chase.
