Indio police cited 63 drivers for numerous violations during a DUI checkpoint operation, it was announced Monday.
The crackdown occurred from 6 p.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday on Indio Boulevard west of Civic Center Drive, according to the Indio Police Department.
Out of 789 vehicles contacted, 63 motorists were issued citations, including for driving without a license, driving with a suspended license and an unspecified number of child seat violations.
The checkpoint location was based on data of impaired driving-related crashes, according to the department.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
