A brush fire that broke out Monday adjacent to Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley charred nearly an acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:40 p.m. in the area of Harvard Way and I-215, on the boundary separating Moreno Valley and Riverside, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said engine crews from the county and Riverside Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate beneath power lines, a short distance from several homes.
Firefighters quickly established hose lays and halted the brusher’s forward rate of spread at 4 p.m., according to officials at the scene.
Crews were expected to finish mopping up by 5 p.m.
Freeway traffic through the area was snarled due to motorists watching the firefighting activity, but no lanes were shut down, nor were any surrounding roads closed due to the blaze.
The source of the fire was under investigation.
