One person was arrested and another was at large Monday following the theft of a vehicle and subsequent pursuit through parts of the Coachella Valley.

Just before 3 p.m. Sunday, sheriff’s deputies spotted a vehicle tied to a theft in the area of the eastbound 10 Freeway and Morongo Trail, according to Sgt. Robert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The chase continued eastbound on Highway 111 and ended in Palm Springs when deputies lost sight of the vehicle.

The vehicle was later found unoccupied in the area of Amado and Belardo roads in Palm Springs, Martinez said.

With support from the city’s Police Department, a suspect was found and taken into custody. The suspect’s name was withheld.

A second suspect believed to be involved in the theft has was still being sought.

The investigation was ongoing.
