A 50-year-old man wanted for allegedly shooting a Mecca man to death and wounding another man in the North Shore area of Riverside County has been arrested in Mexico, authorities announced Friday.

Adolfo Lopez Jr. of Indio was arrested Thursday in Mexicali, Baja California, by Mexican authorities, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Lopez Jr. was turned over to the Riverside County Gang Impact Team at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.

Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 12:08 a.m. last Sunday in the 98000 block of Surfside Ave., according to the sheriff’s department.

They found a 44-year-old man and a 43-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and provided medical aid until paramedics arrives a short time later. The 43-year-old was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs, while the other injured man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased victim was identified as Alberto Padron.

Sheriff’s officials appealed to the public for information that might help them locate Lopez Jr., who was considered armed and dangerous.
