A 41-year-old man who was killed when a woman allegedly ran a red light and crashed into his vehicle at an Encino intersection was identified Monday by county authorities.
The crash occurred about 6 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lindley Avenue and Victory Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim was identified as Yaroslav Ponomarenko of Granada Hills, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Police said a 35-year-old woman was driving westbound on Victory Boulevard when she allegedly ran a red light and collided with Ponomarenko’s vehicle.
It was unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The woman was taken to a hospital, but there was no immediate word on whether she was arrested or could face charges.
Ponomarenko was pronounced dead at the scene.
First-arriving firefighters found four vehicles involved in the crash and a utility pole with communication wires down, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free Ponomarenko from the wreckage, Middleton said.
