A suspected impaired driver was facing serious possible charges Wednesday after mowing down five pedestrians in Boyle Heights with one victim losing both legs.

The crash was reported about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and North Lorena Street, near Evergreen Cemetery Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A driver who was westbound on Cesar Chavez made a U-turn, jumped the curb on the southeast corner and hit five pedestrians, a sergeant at the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division told City News Service.

Video from the location showed the white vehicle plowing into someone sitting at a table outside an eatery.

The victims’ injuries ranged from minor to severe, the worst being a double leg amputation, the sergeant said. All five were taken to hospitals.

He did not have the ages or genders of the victims and driver.
