A wildfire that erupted Thursday in the immediate vicinity of homes on the east end of Menifee scorched about 30 acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the area of Pacific Bluff and Brentworth streets, on the east side of Interstate 215, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a rapid rate across open terrain situated between residential subdivisions.
Three Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter initiated runs on the brush fire just after 4 p.m., significantly slowing its progress and enabling ground personnel to establish hose lays.
At 4:30 p.m., the brusher’s forward rate of spread was halted, after which all fixed wing aircraft departed the location, according to reports from the scene.
The chopper remained overhead to make targeted drops.
Several homes on the end of Pacific Bluff were evacuated as a precaution, though there were no reports of damage. Menifee police officers shut down several streets in the area for public safety.
The fire was expected to be fully contained by nightfall.
The cause was under investigation.
