Authorities pursued a reportedly stolen white sedan from Long Beach to Los Angeles Tuesday, where the driver abandoned the car after a collision with a police cruiser and got into another vehicle that took off and disappeared from sight.
The pursuit began at 2:43 a.m. Tuesday on the Artesia (91) Freeway in Long Beach, California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
At one point, a CHP officer attempted to stop the vehicle with a PIT maneuver or lawful ramming, Garcia said.
The driver got out of the sedan and into the passenger seat of another vehicle which then took off, according to a report from the scene. That vehicle was last seen heading south on the Harbor (110) Freeway near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Garcia said.
It was not clear who was at the wheel at that point.
The CHP canceled the pursuit at about 3 a.m. when visual contact with the suspect vehicle was lost, an officer said.
