A 24-year-old man charged with a deadly crash in Huntington Beach in April was arrested Wednesday.

Lukas William Mchargue was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in the April 15 crash that killed 53-year-old Heather Lewis.

Huntington Beach police arrested Mchargue in Oceanside, police said.

Mchargue, who was behind the wheel of a BMW 328i, was accused of crashing into the rear of the victim’s Kia Soul about 10:40 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway south of Warner Avenue. The force of the crash hurtled the sport utility vehicle into the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, where it overturned and was submerged in the marsh, police said.

Police said Mchargue was going about 100 mph just before the crash, which was more than double the speed limit. Police also alleged he had been drinking and smoking marijuana and had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit, but he is not charged with driving under the influence.

Mchargue was initially booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI combined with alcohol and drugs causing bodily injury, according to the city’s arrest logs.
