A fast-moving brush fire broke out in Santa Clarita Wednesday, burning approximately 52 acres and prompting an evacuation warning before forward progress was stopped.
Firefighters responded to the 21000 block of Centre Pointe Parkway, near Golden Valley Road, at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
By 2:40 p.m., the fire had consumed approximately 30 acres and was burning near homes. An LACoFD spokeswoman told City News Service that an evacuation warning was issued for surrounding areas.
Fire officials reported that the blaze had grown to about 52 acres by 3:20 p.m., with crews continuing suppression efforts amid strong winds.
LACoFD helicopters were making water drops on the blaze, and by 4 p.m. authorities said the fire was 32% contained and forward progress had been stopped.
Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees Wednesday in Santa Clarita, with a high of 105 expected in the afternoon.
