A man who jumped to his death from the Lincoln Boulevard overpass of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Santa Monica was identified Thursday.
Verre Brown was 60 years-old and died from blunt trauma in a suicide, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner said.
The death occurred at about 9:40 p.m. July 9, and was captured on city camera footage, Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Lewis Gilmour told City News Service.
The California Highway Patrol issued a Sigalert at 9:56 p.m. shutting down all westbound lanes east of Lincoln Boulevard while it investigated the crash and aspects of the case, Gilmour said.
The man was seen standing on the edge of the overpass, then jumped from the overpass onto the westbound Santa Monica Freeway, Gilmour said.
“After impacting the roadway, the subject was struck by multiple passing vehicles,” Gilmour said.
The man now identified as Brown was pronounced dead at the scene “due to multiple traumatic injuries,” Gilmour said.
All lanes of the 10 Freeway were reopened at about 1:50 a.m. the next day.
