A 25-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for a gang-related drive-by shooting into a crowd in front of an apartment building in Tustin.

Joseph Anthony Guevara exchanged words with some people in front of the Trinidad Apartments at 15501 Pasadena Ave., near the Costa Mesa (55) and Santa Ana (5) freeways, Oct. 24, 2022, and then left, but the car came back around and the defendant opened fire on the crowd and injured two men and a woman, according to testimony from police at his preliminary hearing.

Guevara pleaded guilty May 29 to two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, a count of a drive-by shooting, carrying a loaded unregistered gun in public, and carrying a concealed loaded unregistered gun, all felonies. He also admitted sentencing enhancements for gang activity, the personal use of a gun, and attempted premeditated murder.

Guevara had credit for 1,567 days behind bars.
