A 23-year-old man was killed Monday when the car he was driving struck a K-rail on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, traveled through about 200 feet of guardrail and overturned down an embankment in Irwindale.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 1:55 a.m. on the Foothill Freeway west of Irwindale Avenue.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Jose Vasquez.
The CHP temporarily closed the slow lane while traffic continued to flow in the remaining lanes.
A news videographer reported that a second person was inside the vehicle, but that person’s condition was not known.
