A suspect led officers on a dangerous 45-minute chase on freeways and local roads Tuesday before coming to a stop in South San Gabriel.
The California Highway Patrol was asked by Santa Monica police at 7:17 a.m. to stop a black Range Rover whose driver was allegedly involved in a road rage incident a couple of weeks ago, authorities said.
Santa Monica Police Department investigators had tried to take the suspect into custody, but he fled, a sergeant in the SMPD watch commander’s office told City News Service.
The CHP began chasing the suspect on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway just south of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in the Pacoima area, and the pursuit proceeded to central Los Angeles and onto the Hollywood (101) Freeway and city streets, a CHP officer said.
The SUV reached speeds topping 100 mph and at times weaved into opposing lanes, narrowly missing collisions, according to overhead coverage that showed the suspect racing down Vermont Avenue and onto the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway.
The driver exited the freeway and the chase ended about 7:55 a.m., when an officer pushed a cruiser into the SUV and the suspect surrendered in the area of San Gabriel Boulevard and Hill Drive.
Specific details about the case in which the driver is a suspect were not immediately available.
