A fire broke out Friday in a Reseda apartment building, killing a pet cat, injuring a person and displacing 20 tenants.
The blaze was reported about 7:35 a.m. Friday in the 18700 block of West Vanowen Street, west of Reseda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Eighty-nine firefighters responded and doused the flames in under 45 minutes, according to the LAFD, which reported that the fire extended from the unit where it started to the one above it.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The Red Cross was summoned to assist the displaced residents.
