A 22-year-old man who died in an apparent car-to-car shooting in the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area of Los Angeles was identified Monday.

Deputies responded to a traffic crash at about 7:35 p.m. Wednesday to the 6600 block of Holmes Avenue, south of Gage Avenue and west of Alameda Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. About the same time, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a car-to-car shooting in the same area.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the crash and pronounced a man dead at the scene. He was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Brandon Corvera, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to the sheriff’s department, another man, a woman and a teenage boy were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening, crash-related injuries, but it was unclear if they were in the same vehicle as Corvera or a different vehicle, or if they were pedestrians.

There was no description of a suspect vehicle involved in the apparent car-to-car shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting an/or the crash was urged to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
