Two people suffered fatal injuries Tuesday when a white sedan crashed into a light pole in the Winnetka neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley.
The crash was reported at about 2 a.m. at 20527 W. Parthenia St., near Mason Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jamie Stewart.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other taken to a hospital by ambulance, Stewart said. Their names, ages and genders were not immediately available.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman later said the car was speeding when it crashed into the city light pole killing the passenger and injuring the driver.
An officer with the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division said that two people suffered fatal injuries.
Video from the scene showed firefighters using hydraulic tools to free the injured patient from the mangled wreckage that was partially wrapped around the pole. The engine was severed from the car and sitting next to it.
