Palm Springs police announced Wednesday that a body discovered Sunday in Palm Springs was confirmed to be a 70-year-old man who went missing in Rancho Mirage.
According to the Palm Springs Police Department, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Bureau positively identified the body found Sunday as Daniel “Dan” Michael Mulcahey.
He had last been seen at about 2:30 p.m. Friday on Bob Hope Drive and MacMillan Way, but his vehicle was subsequently found abandoned in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said.
A Silver Alert was activated the following day by the California Highway Patrol on behalf of the department. Mulcahey was considered critically missing due to an unspecified medical issue and authorities believed he was traveling on foot.
On Sunday, a body was found near Interstate 10 and North Gene Autry Trail, PSPD Deputy Chief Kyle Stern said in a video on the department’s social media pages.
The circumstances behind his death were unclear, and the case is being treated as a suspicious death until investigators determine if foul play or criminal conduct contributed to his death.
