A Long Beach Transit bus struck a pedestrian who died two days later, police said Wednesday.
The pedestrian, described only as a man, was struck at about 1:05 p.m. July 21 in the 400 block of Golden Shore, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Police said the bus was making a left turn onto an access road when it struck the pedestrian as he was crossing the street.
Several good Samaritans rushed to assist the man until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who took him to a hospital in critical condition, police said. The man died at the hospital on July 23.
The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives. Police said speed was not believed to be a factor in the fatal crash, nor were distracted or impaired driving.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was withholding the victim’s name pending notification of relatives.
