A fire that broke out Thursday alongside Interstate 215 in Menifee scorched just over an acre, burning toward a retail outlet, before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:05 p.m. Thursday next to northbound I-215 at Antelope Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews and truck companies were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a slow rate through patchy vegetation fronting the freeway.
Firefighters deployed hose lays in the parking lot of a Living Spaces store, where the blaze effectively ran out of acreage, according to reports from the scene.
No damage was reported at the location, and no traffic lanes on the freeway were directly impacted.
By 3:35 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread had been stopped.
Crews were expected to achieve full containment before 4:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but there were indications a vehicle that broke down on the shoulder of the freeway may have been to blame.
