A 25-year-old man was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for kicking a man in the head multiple times in a Santa Ana brawl two years ago.

Anthony Perez pleaded guilty April 15 to assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury, both felonies, while admitting sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim. Perez has been in jail since May 23, 2024.

As part of his plea deal, a felony count of attempted murder was dismissed.

Perez got into a fight at Third and Spurgeon streets May 22, 2024 and kicked the victim in the head, police testified at the defendant’s preliminary hearing.
