A man was fatally shot Monday in Van Nuys.
Officers responded about 2:10 a.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of Murrieta and Hazeltine avenues, east of Van Nuys Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
Police said a male suspect approached the victim on foot, shot him and fled.
It was not immediately known if the shooting was gang-related, an LAPD officer said.
