Sheriff’s SWAT deputies took a barricaded man into custody Monday after an hours-long standoff in the city of Compton.
Units were called about 5:45 a.m. to the 1700 block of North Willow Avenue to assist deputies from the sheriff’s Compton Station in peacefully taking the suspect into custody.
Neighbors in the area were evacuated as the standoff continued.
Special Enforcement Bureau personnel assumed tactical command of the situation, and around 11:15 a.m. announced the suspect was in custody and the area had been deemed safe, allowing evacuated residents to return, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities did not immediately disclose what prompted the barricade.
