The San Fernando Police Department announced the appointment of a new interim police chief Tuesday.
Anthony Miranda is expected to lead the department as the city conducts a search for a new chief, police said.
Miranda has more than 35 years of public safety experience in Los Angeles County, including 11 years leading several law enforcement agencies and overseeing organizational transitions, according to the city.
Miranda has served as police chief for the cities of Bell, Irwindale, and Vernon. He also acted as a law enforcement liaison for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
“Chief Miranda’s experience stabilizing police departments during major transitions and modernizing public safety operations makes him well-suited to lead the department while the city conducts a thorough recruitment for its next permanent police chief,” City Manager Kanika Kith said in a statement.
The city thanked Acting Chief John Perez for his temporary assignment that ran from June 10 through Monday.
The department said the search for the next chief is expected to take approximately four to six months, adding that the city will provide multilingual opportunities for residents, businesses, employees, and community stakeholders to offer input.
