A 31-year-old man who allegedly stole a woman’s wallet at a Burbank grocery store and used her credit card to purchase a gaming console was arrested Thursday.
Raymond Hurtado, of Oxnard, was arrested Thursday when detectives served a search warrant at his home in the 3400 block of Orange Grove Drive, according to the Burbank Police Department. He was booked on suspicion of alleged offenses including financial abuse, theft, embezzlement, forgery and fraud.
According to police, a 74-year-old woman reported to officers on May 26 that her wallet had been stolen while shopping at a grocery store in the 3400 block of West Olive Avenue. Police said surveillance video from the store showed a man removing the victim’s wallet from her purse while she was checking out.
They said that 20 minutes later, the man used the woman’s credit card to purchase a gaming console at a nearby store.
With the assistance of video evidence, automated license plate reader technology and other tools, investigators identified Hurtado as the suspect, police said.
Detectives were continuing to investigate whether Hurtado may be connected to additional similar crimes in the area.
