A 21-year-old man suspected of a hit-and-run collision during an street takeover in Northridge, critically injuring a spectator, was taken into custody Thursday.
The driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Caprice was performing circular burnouts, or doughnuts, on July 26 near Plummer Street and Haskell Avenue, when the driver lost control and the car crashed into two spectators before the driver left the scene without stopping, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said one of the spectators sustained a head injury, while the second suffered a severe injury to his lower body.
Detectives assigned to the Valley Traffic Division conducted an extensive follow-up investigation and identified the suspect as Benjamin Witt of Santa Barbara.
Witt was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of two counts of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury to another person and two counts of felony reckless driving causing bodily injury.
He was being held on $80,000 bail.
Police said the car has been located and also taken into custody.
