Two more violent street takeovers took place in Los Angeles Saturday, yet despite the ransacking of a nearby AutoZone and a vehicle being set ablaze, no arrests were reported in either case, authorities said.
The first illegal gathering took place around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Atlantic and Olympic boulevards, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s East Los Angeles station.
A break occurred around the same time at the AutoZone at 1131 Atlantic Blvd., with burglars smashing a window and video showing merchandise strewn over the floor inside. Deputies were dispatched to the location at about 2:30 a.m., and sheriff’s officials said the burglary might be related to the takeover. No injuries or arrests were reported.
A couple hours later, another large takeover was reported in the Gramercy Park community of South Los Angeles. Officers were dispatched at 4:30 a.m. Saturday to the area of Western Avenue and Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
They found a large gathering, fireworks and a vehicle on fire in the middle of the road, Officer Rosario Cervantes of the LAPD’s Media Relations Division told City News Service.
No arrests were made and no injuries were reported, Cervantes said.
