A 22-year-old man was charged Monday with an allegedly alcohol-fueled crash that killed a man in Lake Forest.

Joel Obed MendezCamargo of Lake Forest was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level of .08% or more causing injury, all felonies, as well as an infraction for driving without a valid license.

He also faces a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury on an elder.

The crash occurred at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday at El Toro Road and Via Ridgeline Road, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, who was in his 70s and who was in the other vehicle involved in the crash.
