A man shot to death in South Gate was identified by county authorities Monday.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Edgar De Santiago Artechi, 42.
Artechi was found at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of Liberty Boulevard, between Florence Avenue and Firestone Boulevard, by officers responding to an “assault with deadly weapon, gunshot victim” call, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
“An individual that was identified by witnesses as being responsible for the shooting was detained by officers,” according to an LASD statement.
No further details were immediately available.
The sheriff’s department is assisting the South Gate Police Department with the investigation.
