A suspect who was fatally shot by police after they found a man and a woman shot dead in Downey in a suspected case of domestic violence was identified by county authorities Monday.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 7:50 a.m. Saturday in the 11800 block of Downey Avenue, at De Palma Street, a couple of blocks west of Lakewood Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound and later located a woman who was also shot, the LASD stated. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released.
“While on scene, officers were contacted by an armed male subject and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” sheriff’s officials said. The suspect was also pronounced dead at the scene.
He was later identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as Javier Ordonez, 60, whose place of residence was not disclosed.
No officers were injured, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting in the shooting investigation.
Detective Lt. German Ochoa told City News Service that it appeared to be a case of domestic violence, as all of those involved were members of the same family.
