Authorities Tuesday released the names of a woman and man who were shot dead during a domestic violence incident in Downey that ended when an officer fatally wounded the suspect.
The woman was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as Andrea Orozco, 54, whose cause and manner of death were not listed.
Also killed was victim Carmelo Ordonez, 23, and his father, suspect Javier Ordonez, 60, who was fatally wounded by a Downey Police Department officer who responded to the call, according to sheriff’s officials and the medical examiner’s office.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 7:50 a.m. Saturday in the 11800 block of Downey Avenue, at De Palma Street, a couple of blocks west of Lakewood Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Arriving officers found Carmelo Ordonez with a gunshot wound and later located a woman, Orozco, who was also shot, the LASD stated. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
“While on scene, officers were contacted by an armed male subject and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” sheriff’s officials said. The suspect was also pronounced dead at the scene.
He was later identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as Javier Ordonez, 60, whose place of residence was not disclosed.
No officers were injured, sheriff’s officials said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting in the shooting investigation.
Detective Lt. German Ochoa told City News Service that it appeared to be a case of domestic violence. He described Orozco as Javier Ordonez’s “significant other.”
