Fire damaged an apartment unit in La Mirada and sheriff’s homicide detectives were involved in the investigation, authorities said Monday.

The fire was reported at 11:09 p.m. Sunday in the 12600 block of Oxford Drive, south of Imperial Highway, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Aaron Katon.

Smoke was coming out of the front door of a unit in the two-story building when firefighters arrived, Katon said.

One patient was removed from the unit at 11:26 p.m., he said.

The fire was out at 11:33 p.m., Katon said.

ABC7 is reporting that the patient died, but Katon could not confirm this information.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau says homicide detectives have been dispatched to the scene to investigate.
