An investigation was underway in Watts Wednesday after Los Angeles Police Department officers fired at a suspect who was allegedly armed with a rifle and who was quickly taken into custody.
The chain of events started at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to a call of a kidnapping suspect in the area of Central Avenue and Century Boulevard, near Ted Watkins Memorial Park, according to the LAPD.
The suspect allegedly pointed the rifle at two civilians before officers arrived, LAPD officials said.
“Upon arrival, the officers located the suspect who was armed with a rifle,” police said, adding that at least one officer opened fire at the suspect, who was not struck.
The suspect tried to flee on foot but was quickly captured, police said.
No officers or civilians were injured, the LAPD said.
The suspect’s rifle was recovered at the scene, booked as evidence and submitted for forensic analysis, police said.
