A man was cut or stabbed in Fullerton over the weekend and a 46-year-old resident was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said Monday.
An Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputy was flagged down about 10:40 a.m. Saturday and directed to a man who had been assaulted in a parking lot in the 3000 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue, according to the Fullerton Police Department.
The deputy was at the scene when Fullerton police officers arrived and located a man with injuries “consistent with an assault involving an edged weapon,” police stated.
Deputies tended to the injured man, who was taken to a hospital by Fullerton Fire Department personnel.
The suspect had fled the scene by the time officers arrived, but following an investigation, they located and arrested Rene Torres, who was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
The victim, meanwhile, remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said Monday.
Investigators believe the suspect and victim were acquainted and the encounter was isolated with no lingering threat to the public.
