Law enforcement authorities disrupted a planned street takeover Monday in Norwalk, where officials said more than 200 people had planned to gather.
According to city officials, shortly after midnight Monday morning, the Norwalk Public Safety Department spotted about 50 vehicles and more than 200 people gathered at Five Points — the convergence of Pioneer Boulevard, Rosecrans Avenue and San Antonio Drive — for a planned street takeover.
Public Safety officials notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and deputies “quickly responded before the group could completely take over the intersection.”
It was unclear if any arrests were made.
“The city of Norwalk prohibits illegal street takeovers and related activity under Norwalk Municipal Code Chapter 9.30, adopted by the Norwalk City Council. The ordinance also establishes consequences for spectators, including those present while preparations for a street takeover are underway,” city officials said in a statement.
The city imposes fines between $2,000 and $5,000 for repeat violations, and vehicles involved may be seized.
City officials said public safety personnel will continue to monitor for potential street takeovers and collaborate with sheriff’s deputies to hold violators accountable.
