Authorities were investigating Monday after a man was fatally struck by three vehicles as he crossed a Watts street.

The man was struck at 10:03 p.m. Sunday at 1401 E. Imperial Highway, just south of the Nickerson Gardens community, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and a canopy was set up to conceal his body, the spokesman said.

Three vehicles struck the pedestrian but the drivers of the first two vehicles fled the scene, the spokesman said. The driver of the third vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.

The pedestrian was believed to have been homeless, the officer said.
