A fast-moving brush fire broke out in Lancaster Saturday, burning about 75 acres and prompting an evacuation warning before its forward progress was stopped.
The Calvin Fire was reported at 1:38 p.m. Saturday at North 55th Street West and West Avenue B-8, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A second-alarm response was requested at 2 p.m. by the first-arriving firefighters, who estimated the fire’s size to be more than 50 acres. The number was updated to about 75 acres at 2:30 p.m.
At 2:50 p.m., fire officials reported that forward progress of the fire was stopped at 75 acres and the fire was 90% contained by lines of cleared vegetation or other fire breaks.
An earlier evacuation warning issued for an area north of the General William J. Fox Airfield, at 4725 William J. Barnes Ave. and just south of the Kern County line, was downgraded to an advisory at 2:50 p.m.
