A traffic stop of a Lamborghini in Gardena led to the discovery of more than $500,000 in stolen merchandise at the suspect’s home, police said Wednesday.
Officers stopped the vehicle Friday and learned that the driver was on probation, prompting them to search the person’s home, according to the Gardena Police Department. The search allegedly led officers to recover a loaded firearm, which the driver was prohibited from possessing.
The unidentified driver was later taken into custody on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, police said.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a significant amount of clothing, footwear and other merchandise believed to be connected with possible cargo thefts, train burglaries and the distribution of counterfeit goods, police added.
“The Gardena Police Department Special Investigation Unit is actively investigating the origin of the merchandise and working to determine whether it is connected to additional theft or other criminal activity,” the department said in a statement.
