The eldest son of retired boxer Fernando Vargas was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing into two vehicles a Universal Studios parking lot, authorities said Friday.
The crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol, which identified the suspect as Fernando Vargas Jr., 29.
“Upon arrival, officers contacted Vargas Jr. and noted signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation,” according to a California Highway Patrol statement.
Vargas Jr. was arrested was taken into custody and his case will be submitted to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.
Vargas Jr. is a professional boxer who, like his father, fights out of Oxnard. The suspect’s father once held the International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association light middleweight titles.
