A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Sunday in the Central-Alameda community of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 9:47 a.m. Sunday to 1668 E. Vernon Ave., near Long Beach Boulevard, where a person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“The Rail Operations Control Center has been notified and the tracks have been shut down to rail traffic,” the LAFD’s Jaime Stewart said. “Please avoid the area and expect delays in traffic.”

LA Metro later announced that Metro A (Blue) Line trains would be bypassing the Vernon station.
